Ultimately, success is determined per individual when they look back and can judge their whole life for good or bad. Success will be decided as you live and grow and learn or change your viewpoints on certain subjects. Entrepreneur Thomas Oppong describes the process of discovering success through your life. His first point in his article talks about the process of self-discovery which leads to success. Oppong starts out by saying “Life and living it is all about the journey. When you follow your own true north you create new opportunities, have different experiences and create the life you want. Simply sitting back and letting things happen doesn’t yield the quality of life you aspire. Most people’s lives are still not perfectly clear. It’s a struggle almost every adult goes through. “What do I want to do with my life?” “What do I not suck at?” Millions of people have no clue what they want to do with themselves. And that’s okay. No assessment is going to provide you with immediate clarity and sense of purpose. Seeking clarity in uncertain times can be a daunting experience, and it can be very stressful if the solutions you seek don’t appear when you need them. Curiosity, being open to explore the unknown, ready to embrace the surprises that come along the way, are essential attitudes for self-discovery and for gaining clarity about your own life purpose, which then leads to finding your success.” (Oppong 1). Oppong brilliantly sums up the idea of discovering your own success throughout your life. There are going to be a lot of obstacles in the way, but that is part of the journey when it comes to discovering your own success. You determine yourself how you are going to live your life and how you will find your purpose. The best part of the journey, is the end when you look back at your life and see how you experienced it, seeing how you overcame your obstacles and accomplished your goals which ultimately leads to that feeling of success and accomplishment. In the end, there are many different definitions of success. Some believe success is defined by the amount of money a person makes, while others believe success is tied more towards emotions that come when you accomplish your goals such as pride and happiness. When people think of success they generally think of someone who is financially well off. But is that company executive who takes home more than six figures really considered successful if he hates his job and sees no real value in his life? Not every person who is defined as successful is financially well off, and not every wealthy person is defined as successful. The definition of success is neither definite nor restricted due to the fact that this word is defined differently by nearly every single person living in this world.
