The political balance of Europe was shifting from Feudalism to Monarchy, and the monarchs had assert more authority from the church. Feudalism stressed alliances’ protection between monarchs and nobles during the war. A more centralized form of government evolved to take its place. Kings began to create their own army, which increased national taxes and decreased feudal taxes. This force protected the entire nation instead of separate armies for anors. (dutchs, paragraph 5)During the Crusades’ wars, the power of nobles weakened and resulted in an increase of the king’s power. Many nobles sold their land and the freedom of their serfs, in order to raise money for paying the special tax levied by the king to offset the cost of the crusades. While those vassals who were never returned without leaving the heirs, their estates would retrieved and controlled by the monarchs. The serfs who fought in the crusades returned home wealthy and free. These serfs became freeholder on the land and artisans in the towns. Therefore, the relationships between lords and peasants increased as peasants were having fewer taxes and greater economic freedom. The Feudalism keep declining and became a central government, and Monarchy was arising in many kingdoms because of this. Another significant results of the crusades was a reduction of power and centralization in the church. In economy, the Church was promised to provide free loans to the crusaders for usury. The influence of church on people is weakened due to the losing of Crusades, whereby they started to doubt their faith. Also, the Crusades affected the relationship between the Eastern and Western Christian denominations. The Western Church called for the strengthening of papal authority, which caused the church to become more autocratic and centralized. The pope asserted his direct ruling over the east as well as west church. However, the Eastern churches believed that had always enjoyed autonomy of governance, and they rejected papal claims to absolute rule. But neither side was listening to the other, and causing a split within two churches. (khanacademy, paragraph 2, 3) Under this condition, the Monarchs were able to obtain more power and authority from the Church as the lay investiture. The reduction in power that the church was suffered provides chance for other countries in Europe to flourish.A new political pattern soon developed in Europe after the Crusades. This redistribution of power also allowed Europe to support the Renaissance era.The Crusades showed a wider world outside of the European continent, and brought a long lasting impact on Europe from every aspects. The knowledge of the science and learning of the East gained by the crusaders through their expeditions, greatly stimulated their intellect. The mental awaken in European which resulted in a great intellectual outburst known as the period of the Renaissance. For instance, some Italian cities as the center of trade, also became the source of learning and origins the Renaissance. A great revival of intellectual and artistic, that was fulled of vigor and fascination was wounded up sparking by Crusades.
