s4 {text-decoration: underline ; font-kerning: none; color: #021eaa} span.Apple-tab-span {white-space:pre} I will describe the Herschel Space Observatory. This Observatory was named after Sir William Herschel and Caroline Herschel, who discovered infrared spectrums and the planet Uranus(ESA, N.

A). It is important because it was the first observatory able to cover the full far infrared and sub-millimeter (ESA,2017). It had carried the largest optical telescope in space ever, and it was also made from sintered silicon carbide (ESA,2017). So that it can collect lights from extragalactic objects billions of light-years away(ESA,2017). Its working principle was to keep the mirror of the telescope’s temperature less than 2K using liquid helium; once the 2300L was all used, the observatory stopped working. The Herschel Space Observatory was only active from 2009 to 2013, but it had made over 35,000 scientific observations during the four years(Amos,2009). One of the big discoveries done by the Herschel Space Observatory was on April 18, 2013: a starburst galaxy-HFLS3-was 13 billion lightyears away and produces nearly 3,000 solar masses of stars a year(Herschel,N.

A). It is one of the most prolific observatories in ESA, and even after its final observations, 25 papers were published based on its observatory monthly in average(ESA, N.A).
