It is important
for engineers to be able to co-operate and share information efficiently and
effectively both within and outside an organisation. Collaboration can occur
across a multitude of different disciplines and professions and may eventuate
between members of the engineering team, clients or with other departments and
agencies. With engineering being a team-based profession, developing the
ability to work in teams is a desirable characteristic to possess.
A valuable way
to develop this skill would be to actively participate and contribute in project
meetings. This allows an individual to be in a positive environment that
encourages them to freely express their opinions and enhance self-esteem which
in turn, improves their inter-personal skills. By allowing yourself to be
actively involved in team meetings, confidence levels are increased and trust
between team members is achieved.
