Fortunately, in both industrial and developing nations, are contributing

Fortunately, the Earth’stemperature is maintained by the natural greenhouse effect at a safe level allow humans and many other lifeforms to exist. However, due to the Industrial Revolution human activities, greenhouse effect is increases causing the Earth’s average temperature to rise by almost 1°C. This results in the creation of the global warming. Besides, it is important for us to understand that during the last ice age, a period of massive climate change, the average temperature change around the globe was only about 5°C.      Moreover, most scientists have doubt that the rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, originating primarily from the combustion of fossil fuels in both industrial and developing nations, are contributing to global warming. There are two key observations that support this view. First is the current warming trend appear to have started at the time of Industrial Revolution when the use of coal or fuel industrial growth in England and other nations began to accelerate. Next, the second key observation is the rising level of atmospheric carbon dioxide that had been found in several countries.

The analyses show that the preindustrial levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide were about 280ppmv (parts per million by volume). By 1998, they had risen to 365ppmv, an increase of 30% since the start of the Industrial Evolution (Refer appendice-14).     3.2 Causes      First of all, global warming can be caused by greenhouse gases which exacerbate the greenhouse effect.

The gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, nitrous oxide, water vapor and ozone. CO2 will be the common greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. According to the EPA, carbon dioxide accounted for about 82% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. When more fossil fuels are burned at a high rate means that more carbon dioxide is released to the atmosphere. This will cause the average temperature of the Earth’s surface to be increased. Besides.

There are different heat-trapping abilities among those greenhouse gases. Some of them can trap more heat than CO2. For example, a molecule of methane can produce more than 20 times the warming of a molecule of CO2 while nitrous oxide is 300 times more powerful than CO2. Therefore, it is harmful to Earth if these gases are released in large amount. It can cause a serious global warming.

Next, it also caused by deforestation of the rainforests. This is because trees are like the lung of the Earth. Trees will take in carbon dioxide and release large amount of oxygen to the surrounding. For human and animals, they need oxygen for respiration. However, cutting down the trees not only will increase the released of carbon dioxide, it also warming our planet. The average temperature of Earth’s surface will rise.      Also, it is caused by the fossil fuels.

First, if can be cause by fossil fuel power plants. This may be the biggest contribution to the formation of global warming. These plants will release massive carbon dioxide amounts into the atmosphere, which immensely contributes to rising global temperatures. Secondly, it can be cause by the burn fossil fuels from vehicles. The burned fossil fuels will emit greenhouse gas.

Then, the processes of recovering fossil fuels also cause global warming. This is because those processes, especially mining, makes the  carbon get released into the atmosphere, which also contributes to the rising temperatures.      Lastly, the farm animals that release methane greenhouse gases is one of the natural causes of global warming. However, from years to years, more and more farms are being created. This causes more methane to be released into the atmosphere. Methane contributes to rising temperatures by trapping heat close to the earth.

3.3 Effects and Examples      Firstly, global warming can cause the melting of ice and hence the rise of sea levels. Recently, the case of ice melting happens worldwide, especially in the Arctic. The average temperature in Arctic elevated rapidly and resulting the rate of ice melting increases significantly. When ice melted, it will result in the raise of sea levels. The problem of melting of ice is suffered by the country at the Earth’s poles.

For example, at mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice. (Refer appendices-15)      Apart from that, it results in more frequent and severe weather. Global warming is worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts.

Normally, a warmer climate creates an atmosphere that can collect, retain, and drop more water. However, due to the disrupt of temperature that changed the climate pattern, dry areas are becoming drier while wet areas are becoming wetter. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in 2015 there were 10 weather and climate disaster events in the United States including severe storms, floods, drought, and wildfire. This caused at least $1 billion in losses. For context, each year from 1980 to 2015 averaged $5.2 billion in disasters.

If you zero in on the years between 2011 and 2015, you see an annual average cost of $10.8 billion.        If the situation continues and even become more worse, it can cause harm to human and animals heath and even threaten their life. For example, if the average temperature of the Earth continues to rise, the water at the river or lake will dry out. This will lead to death or serious disease of animals or human due to the lacking of water and hot weather. For example, polar bear at the Arctic are not able to withstand the hot weather.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, heavier rains cause streams, rivers, and lakes to overflow. This will cause flash flood, damages life and property, contaminates drinking water which makes the water become unhealthy and creates hazardous-material spills. A warmer, wetter world is also a boon for food-borne and waterborne illnesses and disease-carrying insects such as mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks.   3.4  Solutions      Firstly, global warming can be overcome by shifting to renewable sources of energy such as solar, wing, bioenergy and geothermal that will not cause the Earth’s temperature to rise. Due to multiple research, we found that the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas will raise the level of greenhouse gasses released in atmosphere.

The gases released such as methane and carbon dioxide are the greatest contributor to global warming. Therefore, the used of fossil fuels must be reduced in order to prevent global warming. In addition, by using renewable technologies, we can also get benefits. For example , renewable technologies can be deployed quickly, are increasingly cost-effective, and can create jobs while reducing pollution.      Other than that, one of the effective solution is conserve and save energy. This can be done by all people.

We must always turn off the devices and appliances when not in use. With that, unnecessary usage of electronic appliances can be avoided and reduces the amount of energy expenditure by more than 40%. Then, we must not leave the tap running when washing the car, cleaning the dog or even brushing teeth. We must just use the required amount that we need only.      Furthermore, we must reduce the usage of hot water.

We can buy energy saving geysers and dishwasher for our home. We must not use hot water when it is unnecessary to use it. For example, we can utilize cold or warm water when washing clothes, we are not necessary to use hot water in this case. With that, It will help in saving energy require to produce that energy.      In a nutshell, gases that released by vehicles are also the main causes of global warming. Thus, we must try to reduce the use of vehicles by using public transportation or look for car pool when heading to our destinations. Minimal driving is tantamount to less emission. By driving less, we can save fuel and reduced the rate of global warming. The length of the text: 29492 (No spaces: 25284)
