Female inequality in workplace is one of the harmful aspects that is afflicting the entire society.Women have experienced a historic situation of inequality in the social as well as professional aspects. Women were normally the ones that would take care of children, do the chores in the house, and in rural areas; they would work in the field with the rest of the family. However, today’s women have become more self-sufficient and independent from the predominant male figure within every historical family. Gender inequality in the workplace is becoming less common; yet, gender is a factor that affects men and women. Especially women have been subjected to a historical discrimination that has influenced society to decide which job is more suitable for women than men. However, women have confronted and tried to break down the barriers that has been there before them. For example, when we look to most of the companies all their CEO’s or higher positions are men’s.

In the workplace, women do not receive the same benefits that men do. Women are a major part of the human resource of an economy and a company and thus their empowerment and development are essential for the development of the economy. Several studies have confirmed that decreasing gender inequality improves productivity and economic development and that the economic advantages of reducing back barriers to women’s engagement in the workforce could be substantial.            One of the category of gender discrimination is the pay gap. One cannot begin the discussion of gender pay gap without defining it. Simply put, gender pay gap is the inequality between men and women wages. Gender pay gap is a constant international problem, in which women are paid, on average, less than that of their male counterpart. As to if gender pay gap still exists, its exactness fluctuates depending on numerous factors such as professional status, country and regional location, gender, and age.

Regarding gender, in some cases, both men and women have stated that the gap does not exist. Due to various countries initiatives to shrink the wage inequality between men and women wages in the work force, the gap has narrowed, respectively, which may have helped form such opinion. However, stating that the gender pay gap does not exist today, anywhere, is completely unlikely. Seeing that the gap has loosened its grasp in the working world, in other countries, the gap between pay has widen or remained stagnant. One cannot help but wonder why the gap remains consistent even with such substantial progress made in countries where the gap has decreased.  Women who work at the same place with the same positions as men are not receiving equal pay compared to the male workers. According to the American Association of University Women, they released a new study that showed when men and women attended the same kind of college, picked the same major and accepted the same kind of job, on average, the woman would still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earned.

Employers still view men as more capable, reliable, responsible, productive, and better qualified than women, especially when considered for executive positions. Employers feel that a family or children tend to be an added burden on a woman and tend to prohibit her from being loyal to her employer. Also, she is perceived not to be as productive since she has other responsibilities on her mind. One of the other problem than caused by gender discrimination is sexual harassment at the workplace based on gender. Sexual Harassment has been very problematic issue in the workplaces. It occurs everywhere in the world. Throughout the history, many women have suffered from unsolicited sexual behaviors, usually provoked by their employers or co-workers. Nevertheless, in both types of harassment, the harasser might be male or female.

The victim doesn’t have to be opposite sex. Yet, the victims are usually able to depend on a person who is forcing them. For example, those can be divorced mothers or widows, young people and ethnically diverse. Therefore, it is easier to force them to sexual act in exchange for some prize, such as promotion, or keep the job. Sexual harassment is a violation of women’s rights and a prohibited form of violence against women in many countries. Sexually harassing conduct causes devastating physical and psychological injuries to a significant percentage of women in workplaces around the world.

Harassment directed against women in the workplace by their supervisors, fellow employees, or third parties interferes with the integration of women in the workforce, reinforces the subordination of women to men in society, violates women’s dignity and creates a health and safety hazard at work. Sexual harassment can take two forms. First, whenever an employee is required or requested to engage in or submit to sexual acts as a term or condition of employment, assignment, or job benefit. Second, sexual harassment may exist when comments, conduct, or actions of the employer, supervisors, or coworkers creates an unwelcome or hostile work environment. Managers should be mindful of both and seek to prevent them.Indirect gender discrimination is more subtle than direct discrimination. Some recruitment practices may not even be a deliberate attempt to discriminate, but nevertheless have the effect of disqualifying female job candidates. The U.

S. labor market may be bouncing back but men and women seeking jobs across the country find themselves facing very different employment conditions. The value of women in the workplace is largely recognized, but that doesn’t mean women stand an equal chance of landing a job.

Equality for women has come a long way, but there is still progressing to be made. And that doesn’t just mean equal pay. Women face inequality and discrimination before they even get a job, despite federal laws prohibiting this unfair treatment by employers. Notwithstanding these rules, a study by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences  found distinct discrimination towards female candidates. When hiring managers had to choose between an equal mix of men and women for a math-based task, both male and female managers favored male candidates, based on their paper qualifications alone.

One other discrimination that been around for years is woman are less likely to get promoted. Across all organizational levels, the study found that women are a whopping 15% less likely than men to get promoted. There’s a common misconception that women who start families are subsequently less ambitious in their careers.

Women across the country are being passed over for promotions because of their gender. They may not know that this is illegal or where to turn to get the recognition they deserve. Profession separation in woman is found in the demoralization of entering certain fields of work, for example, the sciences, mechanical, building, police, and organization fields. The term woman’s work is frequently thought less renowned than occupations held by the contrary sex.

This is a type of debasement of female s employments. women are contracted into less alluring employments and one a vocation moves toward becoming related with woman’s, it is evaluated in the authoritative setting. Isolation not just discourages the wages of women; it surrounds their objectives, yearnings, and alternatives. Numerous females tend to pick employments marked as woman’s employments, for example, instructors, medical attendants, social laborers, or curators, keeping in mind the end goal to succeed inside their occupation. This puts down females in the work environment, because of the sex parts learned. Women were become the more female, and men as manly. Because of this supposition that men and women are of various ranges, it is trusted that females can’t do what the men do and the other way around.

It is found and explored that with a similar measure of instructive foundation, females hold less manager positions and get bring down pay. Furthermore, promotions are variable by sex and class: men have more promotions than women and more of them take place at the top of occupational orders where women are less well represented. Traditionally, a woman s gender role in society is of a homemaker; a man’s gender role is that of the financial breadwinner. Due to that role that is embedded into our society pertaining to males and female gender, women are the largest minority, due to these gender inequalities in the work force. It is also less likely that a pregnant woman will be hired for a job.  Employers think that pregnant women get to emotional and are not able to handle responsibility because they have different priorities. Now let’s look in another point of view where gender discrimination is view as good or positive towards the economic, especially for employers, manager, and companies. Gender inequality is good for economics.

There sure are certain advantages of stereotyping based on gender. It helps to get a general idea how a man or a woman can handle a certain type of work or deal with a certain situation. This helps the owners of businesses make the right decisions while hiring candidates or taking important work-related decisions. we know that individuals, economies, and societies would benefit from gender parity in the long term, gender inequality is often a perfectly rational choice for individuals in the short term.

A topical debate in recent years has been the issue of female representation on boards. Company boards around the world are predominantly made up of male executives, with a very small proportion being female. Some of the negatives if the women’s become the leader or the manager is there have been discussions about whether women’s behavior in the workplace is affected by the hormonal changes. Both men and women have equal hormonal challenges that sometimes impact their decision-making skills and attitudes towards colleagues and subordinates at work. Both can be tired, burnt out, frustrated, and stressed. However, women tend to allow hormonal problems to reflect in their moods and behaviors at work. Women face great hurdles to climb up the career ladders and they may pull other competitive women down to retain the top most secured position in a job. Women bosses do depict tendencies of being jealous and criticizing over time.

One of the reason the employers hire more male than females is woman usually take more days off than men because of their family or other personal problems. Employers always look for the long term. Some of the women take part time job after a certain age which the employers find very disappointing. Men usually possess a great self-confidence, and this helps them be great leaders in their professional lives.

When there is a debate or group discussion, usually men are regarded as efficient speakers. They know how to argue their point by presenting the facts of the situation and without getting carried away by emotions easily. This makes them perfect for positions where discussion and debates come into the everyday work. If an employer hired some females who had a child, they going to be too much worried about their babies and therefore not capable of taking care of work responsibilities. Although the work ethic is there, a woman is unable to finish a task as quickly as a man can.

The heavier burden is always put on a man’s shoulder.  Men always have the bigger responsibility and are much more capable of making executive decisions during stressful times.  Salaries should always reflect who does the better and heavier job which means, men will make more than woman in the work environment. From all the discussing above, gender inequality is obviously an urgent problem in the world. Even though its volume much decreases, it still exists and makes a lot of people suffer its consequences every day. And there are many reasons leading to gender discrimination which cannot be solved easily.

Worldwide, most countries recognize that equal rights should exist between men and women. However, some are countries are still against the equality. For example, in most of the Asians countries people can see direct and indirect gender discrimination. India is one of the country that give more priority to gender discrimination. Females and males in India are agreeable to this discrimination. Gender discrimination is allowed in their culture but now days the millennials are trying their best to stop discrimination by striking and teaching the elder women to help them to stop this gender discrimination.

Most of the women’s in India are housewives. Even if they have education they infrequently go to job. Any have produced regulations intended to fight discrimination and programs granting women access to health, education, and economic rights such as land ownership.

However, the fact remains that women have fewer opportunities than men to benefit from economic development, with lower participation in the labor force. However, with education and progressive thoughts of people, there are also reasons to trust in the future of gender inequality being stopped. Then, hopefully, people can live in fairness no matter what gender they are.Gender inequality has come a long way. It has gotten better because of education and laws put into place but there is so much to improve on still. For continued development in gender equality, woman need to stand up for themselves.

They are a huge part of the task force and need to stand up for what they have confidence in. Women also deserve to get waged as much as men if they are doing the same responsibilities.  They are just as educated as men are today and should be allowed to prove themselves in any job situation and be given the same opportunities as men to advance their positions.  We have seen great paces in our society regarding woman in the work place, Hilary Clinton, Oprah, Mother Theresa, Michelle Obama, and Indira Gandhi are all woman in position of power.  We need to see more woman taking control of their opportunities and prove they can get the job done.
